EVAC to host a virtual press conference to help left-behind Afghan Allies

Denver, August 26, 2022 - Colorado-based non-profit EVAC will host a virtual press conference at 6pm MT (5pm PT, 8pm EST) on Tuesday August 30th, 2022 (link below)— the one year mark after the US completed its withdrawal from Afghanistan. This event will feature first-hand accounts from Afghans hiding from the Taliban, statements from Congress members Jason Crow and Peter Meijer, and a briefing and call-to-action from EVAC Executive Director Kathryn Chovanes. Additional elected officials have been invited to give statements during the event.

August 30th, 2022 marks 1 year since the U.S. withdrew from Afghanistan and left behind hundreds of thousands of Afghans who – either due to their support for democracy and civil rights or their work with US troops – are being hunted by the Taliban. EVAC is proud to host this virtual press conference to recognize and honor the sacrifice of US-affiliated and at-risk Afghans, to share current information on the state of the crisis, and to highlight how NGOs like EVAC are filling in governmental gaps to help Afghans still left behind.

“Afghan Allies risked their lives to support US troops and democratic ideals, and, for a year now, the Taliban have been systematically hunting them because of it. Just as our Afghan Allies stood with us during our 20 years in Afghanistan, we need to show them that Americans still stand with them,” said Kathryn Chovanes, EVAC Executive Director.

The virtual press conference is free and open to the press and public.
