Save Ghulam’s Family
Ghulam’s Story
Ghulam is Hazara Shia, an ethnic/religious minority group persecuted by the Taliban. Also, Ghulam’s daughter, Nilofar, studied in programs sponsored by the U.S. embassy and taught English. In 2021, the Taliban marked their door with an X and sent the family a letter that said, “You are asked to be present for questioning on Wednesday 10/6 at 8am. If you do not show up, there will be consequences. We will find and execute you.” Since then, the family has been in hiding. If the family isn’t rescued, they will be killed or his 4 daughters will married off to Taliban soldiers or sold into sex slavery.
The family of 8 consists of Ghulam and his wife Habiba, their children Farida (31F), Nilofar (22F), Zainab (20F), Maisam (16M), Kawsar (12F), and Ghulam’s mother-in-law Wahida.
The Evacuation Mission
We desperately need your help. For 18 months, we've kept Janat and his family safe, but they're not free. Now, finally, we can get them out. We've made logistical and legal arrangements to transport this family from Afghanistan, through Pakistan, and ultimately resettle them in Brazil. The mission is dangerous, involving acquiring back-channel passports and visas from Taliban-controlled government offices and transporting the family across a Taliban-controlled border. With over 100 successful evacuations to date, we’re confident in our ability to keep the family safe and get them to Brazil—their new home.
Everything is in place – everything except the money to fund this operation. The operation costs $94,500, which will result in this entire family living full lives in safety. We have until March 15th, and we need you. If we fall short of our goal, this family will be stuck and the most likely outcome is eventual Taliban capture with family members being killed and their 4 daughters given to the Taliban as brides or sold into sex slavery.
Please don't let that happen. Help us by making a tax-deductible donation – anything you can – now. Here’s how the evacuation is conducted:
